Help on wipe on poly or polycrylic.....

I've just finished (for the 3rd time) a Reranch Fender blonde paint job. I say paint job because I did it the 1st time, & it came out horrible. Stripped it, got the finish almost perfect, & had 3 pinholes in lower bout. Instead of dropfilling (like I would have done on a repair), I sanded & re-grainfilled, & blended in almost perfect. The last can of Reranch lacquer I had was spitting so bad, I had to sand down to paint. The question is, can I go over the lacquer based blonde paint with wipe on poly or polycrylic, or do I have to take off the blonde & go with stain. I do have Deft clear gloss, but I wanted to try the poly if it works. Thanks for any help.......don
