I need to F*#$ up my finish
Im trying to release my newer CIJ Tele from the grasp of its IMO plasticy lacquer/poly. Any body got a strategy for doing this. I personally think the faux relic thing is a little poser, but am tempted to hit it with some steel wool, wet sand, compound, or just hang it in the skylight for a few weeks and let the sun bake it. Anyone have a method thats worked for them? Thanks

1-dismantle the whole guitar ( remove neck, electronics, bridge, knobs ect...) 2-drag /slide that guitar across the sidewalk , drop it a few times on the concrete , throw some sharp rocks at it , then drag it across the pavement some more . put all the parts back. voila....a 'relic 'guitar. |

Give this a shot!
Strip your guitar of all hardware, neck, etc. Place your "shiney" slab in the deep freeze overnight. The next day, place that frozen hunk of wood outside in direct sunlight. This works best on top of a hot roof! Repeat this process until a desired checking is achived. In my experience, the MIJ "shineys" take a little longer but crack up really well! I've had friends who have actually rubbed painting glaze into the cracks after each thaw-out with some really cool results, but that is kind of a crap shoot. I just like the checking you get with those freeze/thaw cycles. If you dont want to fade the finish, remember to put the body in a paper bag. It you decide to let her fade, turn the body over every other day so you don't bake just the top. Hope this helps.
