neck pickup won't sit secure

It's a Texas Special, if that matters. Modern Tele, so it screws onto the guard. It leans toward the neck. Wondering how others have fixed this problem.

Have you changed pickguards or was it always like this? I had the same problem with mine after installing an aftermarket pickguard, but my pups mount to the body. Seems the holes didn't line up just so, which pushed the pickup toward the neck. I had to shave off some of the pickguard material inside the pickup hole and then put a piece of black plastic between the body and pickguard to hide the widened hole. Since your pup is mounted to the guard, widening the body rout may be in order. But don't do that until it's the last resort. I'm sure others will have suggestions.

Thanks for the info. It's the same guard, the pickup I replaced rested as it should. Very curious.

did you mount it the wrong way round(if thats even possible)?

Seems like the screws that come with most neck pups are for mounting direct to the body, not to the pickguard. I think what's happening on mine is that as I raise the pickup, the screws are making contact with the body so I just plan on cutting some length off the mounting screws with a dremel disc and adding additional tubing if needed.

Make sure you don't have any pup wire snagged under it. Gently pull through any excess wire from underneath the pup via the control cavity

I sometimes will put a piece of foam under the pickups to put pressure on the pu to make it level.
You can play around with different density foam till you find something that works well for you.
