Push/pull switch -- on the VOL. pot?
I never wanted to put a push/pull on the volume pot of any axe, as that's such an important control; seems like the "feel" would be impaired by the up & down thing. Yet, I am just about to, or am considering, putting these switches on both my tele & strat, on the vol. pot, because of fancy-Dan wiring notions. I need that spot on both guitars, for a switch.
I don't like push/pulls; but I like mini-toggles even less! Lesser of two evils dept. Wondering: Do any of you players have such switches on the vol. pot; and, any issues thereto, or is it something you "get used to"? |

I have it.
My Fender Prodigy only has a tone and volume control. The volume splits the humbucker and the tone cuts in the bridge. I don't find any problems with it. I don't split the humbucker that much.

I have a thinline RI with Barden 2-tone HB's. The Volume taps the Neck pup and the tone taps the bridge. I don't recall the brand, but they feel pretty solid. I haven't inadvertently activated one (although I don't play out, at this point.)
I was going to use push-pulls on a MIM Standard. Oddly enough, I ordered the wrong part number and got "push-push". I didn't end up using them (just went with a 4-way), but that might not be a bad option. I can't vouch from experience.

I have split-coil push pull volume controls on a new Les Paul Studio and have to say it's nice to be able to cover all those different sounds with one guitar.
Don't understand why you would think it feels strange - makes no difference in the feel of the volume controls compared to my 74 LP. Never tried it on my tele but imagine it would be fine. I never try to solve problems before I have them - no insult intended but neither should you...it's a complete waste of energy to conjecture what "may" happen. The mod is reversible in 1/2 hour approx anyways. |

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to install that today.
I guess my "fear" comes from a 335 I used to have, on which someone had put push/pulls on all the pots, and several times a knobs went clattering to the dance floor in the heat of the moment. Of course with a tele's set screw that would be unlikely. |

There are ways to keep your knobs stuck tight to the pots, not a big deal. With your Tele's set screw knobs, you'll want to get a brass busing for the knurled shaft so the pot fits a little better, or you'll want to cram something in the slot of the pot shaft to keep it from collapsing. A sliver of wood stuck in there does the trick.
I prefer a minitoggle to a push/pull just like gyspymoth. You can activate it much more quickly and easily while the pot requires a more careful and deliberate movement. I've never found a push/pull to change the feel of a pot significantly. |

Never thought of that - good point. I had one of my tone control knobs fly off on an Epi SG. Taking a screwdriver and prying the shaft more open fixed it. |
