Bridge stringholes a bit offline from bridgeplate
The bridge plate on my roadworn tele does not perfectly match the string holes
Will this affect my intonation or tuning stability It has been playing up and has yet to be serviced as I am not competent enough to fix it Any help would be greatly appreciated West |

My 72 Thinline kept breaking strings at the saddles, I tried graphite saddles and all that palaver to no avail. Recently changed the bridge to a Callaham vintage hardtail bridge. In doing so I noticed that the holes didn't line up on the old Stew Mac bridge that was on there! Not even close!
The new bridge sounds great, plays great, and I haven't broken a string yet. BUT! This is not to say you will have the same problem! Two of my strings were actually being physically pulled out of true. If you aren't noticing any problems then it's fine!

The only thing the mislignment will effect is restringing.
Fixing it is not at all hard. Next time you have the strings off of it find three or four nails, drill bits, pieces of wire, etc. that fit the string-through holes closely. Loosen the screws that hold the bridge to the body and wiggle the bridge around until you can drop your drill bits (or whatever) through the bridge holes and into the holes drilled in the body. Tighten the mounting screws, remove your drill bits, and restring.
