Difficult to make a Relic'd neck?

I really like the feel of the necks on the Custom Shop relic'd guitars.

How difficult would it be to duplicate the feel to my poly coated necks?

I'm guessing they strip the poly and then spray the neck with some nitro, then rub and polish? Too newbie to know.

I have a couple of 50's classics I'd like to relic the necks on.

If you're looking for a smooth-feeling neck, a common trick is to use #0000 steel wool and scrub down the back of the neck with it, basically dulling it with the wool. The result is a smooth, easy-sliding neck.
