will this wire work? radioshack

so i am gonna follow the, "quieting the beast" (for shielding my strat and 72 custom) from guitar nuts as best i can. i got the closes wire i could to what was called for and it is this... 24 gauge audio cable. 2 conductor plus shield. is this going to work. there are two smaller wires covered by plastic. the 2 wires within are 24 gauge right. does anyone foresee problems. any help appreciated. and as always love, tdpri.

It'll work, but it's not necessary to have shielded wire within a shielded cavity.

Pretty much any wire will work, but 20-24 AWG is the norm in guitars. The only thing you really need to avoid is wire with an uncovered shield, like Gibson uses in their single conductor humbuckers. When you stuff all that wire back into a Tele or Strat cavity, the shield sometimes gets pushed up against other components and grounds them out.

By "uncovered", Koko means "uninsulated". An uninsulated shield can press up against a switch lug or something else and create a direct short to ground, which is probably not good. If one uses shielded cable in anything (not just a guitar), he should make sure that the whole cable is insulated. Nothing is more maddening than to go looking for a stray short somewhere in the bowels of the guitar!
