Tele volume pot with 'extra' caps?

OK, posted here on my AV62RI Tele Custom doing an intermittent huge treble/volume boost thing on any pup selection, any tone knob position but only w. volume pot not full open. I could stop it by sweeping volume pot but guitar became unusable finally so put new vol. pot in.

Here's the old one & puzzled by these lug-to-lug caps. WTH? Treble bleed was gone but cannot decipher these caps purpose. It's 'modern wired BTW, 3- way.

With new pot it is now fine but curious about my Tele that I thought was all stock til tore into it. Any ideas what somebody was trying to do?

I believe that resistor and capacitor together is a treble bleed setup but it sure is a sloppy soldering job. It can easily short to ground the way it is.

Yeah it did great for quite a few years & a lot of play but man when it first shorted it was a quite an 'ear opener'.
