I recently changed the pickups on my Epiphone Les Paul Studio to Jb/59. I I think I have wired the guitar correctly but the pickups are very quiet. When I try to turn up the volume on the amp I get a loud screech.

You might have got the PUs out of phase if this happens when both are on. Check the wiring and reverse on of the PUs. Seems like the PUs are feedbacking?

Are you getting a normal pickup signal otherwise? It's not clear from your post whether the pickups are working at all since you say they're very quiet. I'm not familiar with the replacements you're using, so i'll ask: Are you going from potted original equipment to un-potted replacement pickups? If so you may be getting squeal, which is the combination of microphonics and feedback that prompted people to wax-pot the pickups in the first place. Sometimes a piece of foam squished under the pickup base plate can help.
