mounting a tele pickups in a decent strat body dilemma

I had been planning a nashville strat but finding it difficult to souce parts to my spec, so to compromise i thought why not just shove some tele pickups into a strat partscaster maybe add a gretsch pu as well into the neck position -at least a trem would be an option. However would the bridge pu still sound like a tele without the metal around it ? as achieving a telecaster sound option but from a strat body is the purpose of the project. I've heard somewhere that string through body sounds no different from top loaded bridge and that the metal mounting bridge plate isn't necessary to get that tele tone. I'm sure I have seen a few pics of this sort of set up but no mention of what they sound like.

No expert, but I'd guess it's the pickup that makes the difference, not the metal bridgeplate. Or at least the pickup would make more of a difference.

My experience is that these two statements is absolutely false. That's not to say that a guitar can't sound good if it's a top loader or doesn't have a ferrous bridge plate, but those two components do make up an important component of the classic Tele tone.

The only way to tell if you'll be happy with the tone you get is to try it for yourself.

The Jerry Donahue Strat has a Tele pickup in the bridge. The pickguard has a metal plate set into its underside, surrounding the pickup in true Tele fashion.
