Selector switch noise (not what you might think)

I need some help diagnosing and resolving an issue with my pickup selector switch. When I move the switch to either the bridge or neck positions, I get a loud metallic ping that is greatly amplified when plugged into my amp. It looks like the post of the switch is hitting the ends of the slot on the control plate. It is much more noticeable when selecting the neck pickup, but it is still just as annoying when switching to the bridge pickup (although a bit quieter).

I have tried replacing the switch and the control plate and nothing has helped. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them because I am out of ideas.

I don't know if this matters, but I will include it anyway. The guitar in question is a CIJ '62 reissue tele, and I have noticed that everything about that guitar is just a hair off spec. Nothing fits exactly like it should.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

If it's the slot as you suspect, it will still make that snap noise un-plugged. It's not unusual to have to lengthen the slot in the control plate.
