Rub it with a dry erase marker, then wipe clean.

I have a signature in one of my acoustics. I have thought about using a Mr. Clean magic sponge, but I am afraid to try it. You might want to test it on something else first.

I've used naptha, but test an area. Lighter fluid.

The best sharpie remover i have found to be spray sun block. I discovered it a long time ago when I was at my brother's soccer camp to pick him up. His name was written in sharpie, and I picked it up right after putting sunblock on. I have used it on everything i needed to remove sharpie from since. Haven't tried it on a guitar though.

I've removed sharpie from a car using acetone. Test anything you will be trying in a hidden place first (like a pickup cavity or something) to be sure it won't react.

1. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
2. WD-40
3. Anti-bacterial hand gel
4. Hairspray
5. Cooking spray
6. Edited for content...
7. Bleach (depending on the surface)
8. Goof Off

Even some gas on a rag would work. Smells good too.

PS. Don't you gas, bleach or alcohol on lacquer....although it does come to mind that I have used alcohol on lacquer....use at your own risk.

Acetone will strip the lacquer from his 52RI.

Nail polish remover is acetone, and it will also strip the lacquer on a 52 RI.

Avoid anything with alcohol or acetone on a lacquer finish.

You can also buff the sharpie off using automotive polishing compounds.

A few months back, a ballpoint pen I use for chord chart notes exploded in my guitar case and the ink got all over the body and neck of my 52RI.

Based on recommendations of this board, I tried hairspray on it. A half hour of elbow grease and it was virtually all removed. Absolutely no damage to the finish (though my guitar smelled like a 15 year-old girl from 1987 for a few days).

So, hairspray is my vote. I know ballpoint is not the same as sharpie, but that would be my first line of attack.

Don't use OOPS. It will drive the ink into the grain. Please don't ask how I know.

Just keep in mind that that AVR has a nitrocellulose lacquer finish which is more delicate than other modern guitar finishes. Alcohol will harm it and will leave white marks; acetone will dissolve the finish completely. Naptha (lighter fluid) is safe, but it might have little effect on the sharpie. It really depends on how far into the lacquer the sharpie has burned itself.

This is what i would use. Or any good swirl remover or buffing compound. Should take it right off, no problem.

I have used peanut butter, yes I said peanut butter, it works perfect to remove the residue from when you remove the clear protective plastic on pick guards.
