Shorter Control Plate?

I'm building a bass right now that I'd like to put a Tele style control plate on. Since it will only be a one pickup V/T setup, and there is some body contouring, a standard Tele plate would look awkward and be too long.

Besides the 50's P plate...

...do I have any other options?

Here's the bass in question, which I may shorten the upper horn on a bit more. It is 34" scale.

Thanks!

What about rear routing it? That way, you only see the knobs.

+1. On that bass I think this would look best.

I thought about rear "routing", but I'm doing it all by hand... saws, chisels, hand-cranked drill. So I'm a little leary of chiselling the electronics cavity like that. How thick do you think I could leave it?
