few problems with my micawber
hi all again
tryed to finish my micawber today. Was a butterscotch fsr MIM first. I put a SD antiquity in neck and a Don Mare 10K in bridge. BTW put a callaham vintage bridge (amazing, no need to set it up, intonation was already perfect!!! I changed the vol pot for a 500k (BTW I noticed the stock pots are CTS). The prob now is that:1) Turning volume or tone doesnt make much effect. 2) the 2 pickups sound very nicely separately but the middle position is quite the same as the neck position. Probably something wrong in the wiring.... (maybe adding a cap somewhere???) but what???

My suspicion would be that you neglected to insulate the Braided Shield coming from the SD as it entered the control cavity, and it is shorting out on another component ?....Try it with the control plate lying on top of the guitar...w/ all wires not touching....Report your results, and recheck all your wiring and solder joints.

checked the switch this morning. A solder was little funny so fixed it. Now the 3 positions are fine (middle one is really special). Now the only problem left is that the vol pot odesnt do the job. its a cts 500K audio. I just kept the 022 cap between the 2 pots. Should I solder a bigger cap to the vol pot?

I couldn't get my neck humbucker and my single coil bridge to both sound good at the same time. Someone on here suggested putting a 240 k ohm resistor between the switch and ground on the volume pot.
I put it on the same lug as the bridge pup on the switch, and grounded to the back of the volume pot and it is now pure tonal heaven. Humbucker sounds so great, bridge single coil sounds like its suppose to and middle position is killer. |

If you use any cap across the volume pot, it's to retain highs as you roll down the volume, and it should be tiny. Usually .001 uf or smaller. If that's not it, why don't you post a pic of your wiring configuration so we can see what you've done. |
