Klutson tuners slipping

Hi everyone its my first post lol

I recently put a warmoth vintage tele neck on my relic tele, I had a bit of trouble getting the vintage Klutson tuners in, as the posts do not fit exactly through the head. Anyway there on now, I've placed a string tree in the exact same spot that my other teles tree is in. But now when I try to string up the first and second strings, the tuners let go the minute they gain a bit of tension...can anybody help, thanks

Has to be more to this Story....Walk us through your Tuner install, and how you install the strings.

Its ok, I checked your forum, which I should have done in advance sorry !, and the vintage tuners were just being tricky. as for the posts, I have seen other vintage tuners installed with the same gap between post and bushing. cheers anyhoo. Will let you know if I stumble into any more problems on my second tele build, cheers

The these tuners really old Klusons, as in taken off of an old guitar?

If you're speaking of newer split shaft tuners being sold under the "Kluson" name, this is confusing since WD owns the Kluson name in the USA market while others own it elsewhere and I don't know which product you have. A typical bore hole in a Warmoth vintage style neck takes the bushing from a set of Gotoh splits real easily but at least some of these so called Klusons require that the hole be reamed out some more.

On that slippage on the thin, plain strings, do a search on some string prep techniques. If you just insert the thin string and start turning the peg, don't be surprised if it slips and never stabilizes. I cut each string to a predetermined length and (using needle nose pliers) apply 2 ninety degrees bends eccentric to one another to each string prior to loading. Bulletproof.

I was always under the impression that cutting the wound strings first could cause them to unwind.

No, that won't happen.
