tele necks from strat necks
Got this crazy little idea.....
Since a strat neck has a larger headstock, it can be cut into tele shape. As for the heel, teles have squared heel and strats have slightly rounded heel. If I shave the strat heel into tele shape, will it fit a tele body nicely with almost no gaps?

Nope. The end of the Strat's heel is already at the same place as the end of the Tele's heel, so there are going to be gaps in the corners even if you don't square off the heel.
Why? Do you have a bag full of extra Strat necks or something? ;-) |

I feel like giving up my strat, selling all the parts but I can't bear to sell my usacg neck.

Blind faith tele.....
![]() I wonder how some people put strat necks on tele bodies. The heel is different which also means that the pickguard might not fit properly.

I get it..... I don't modify the strat neck, I just need a slightly modified pickguard and a slightly modified neck pocket on the tele body.

shouldn't need to modify the neck pocket at all. just need a new pickguard to match the heel shape. unless the strat neck has a 22nd fret, then it covers the gaps to a degree that may or may not be enough for you. may not even need a new pickguard.

I wouldn't say you modify either the body OR the guard. If you have a tele body + tele pickguard + strat neck, to get the neck to work, you can use a few approaches.
1) Leave the body as is. When you bolt on the neck, there will be gaps on the corners. Get a new tele pickguard with strat-style heel. No amount of "modification will put that plastic back into the corners. 2) Fill the neck pocket of the tele body and re-route for strat-style neck heel. Get a new tele pickguard with strat heel. 3) Get a new body with a strat heel. Get a new pickguard with a strat heel. |

then, after you've done one of the above, get a new tele pickguard with strat-style heel. Unless you have a 22 fret neck -- in which case, the overhang will probably cover the gap and you won't have to do or buy anything. There. Fixed that for you.

Thanks everyone! How about getting a new usacg strat body with tele routing? I only want the bridge pickup rout so I can do without pickguard.

Where can I get a pickguard that matches the heel shape? By doing that, I won't need to modify body or neck if the pickguard covers the little gaps.

No mod is needed to put a strat neck on a tele. Just bolt it on.
I didn't even have to modify the pickguard, like everyone has said if the neck has a 22nd fret everything it covered and looks great. I love it. I've played strats for 10+ years and a strat neck on a tele is so comfortable yet sounds so different. |
