String Buzz

Alright I am developing a string buzz at the 3rd fret on G and B strings the worst but I can hear it on all strings at the 3rd. The frets are jumbos and don't look worn at all, slightly flattened on the 3rd. the 2nd fret looks flatter on those strings and it doesn't buzz there.. Just at the 3rd. I have adjusted saddles a little to see if I could take it out but no luck. Would dressing that fret fix this or it it something else I should try.. The nut seems to be fine, no movement there. I am confused.. These are the saddles.. I plan to move to brass compensated saddles soon, but want this fixed first.

Thanks for any help..

As the rankest of rank amateur guitar fixers, I think the first place I'd look is to see how straight the neck is under string tension. Maybe the truss rod is too tight and the neck is too straight. It should be slightly concave. Secondly, I'd raise the action a tad with the saddles and see if that fixes it. It's possible your neck needs a shim at the headstock end of the mount, or possibly there's a shim at the bridge end of the mount that should be removed.

Try setting the guitar up using Fender's setup guide from their website: http://support.fender.com/manuals/in...%29_manual.pdf

This worked for me with a dead-in-the-water Squier Bullet and it plays really well now.

Thanks I will give that a shot. It just seems strange that it only does it on the 3rd fret. I am now wondering if the 3rd fret is worn and the 4th is high enough it just grazes it when fretting the 3rd.. I play alot around the 3rd. I will break out some gauges tomorrow and see what comes of following the set-up guide. I have never had a problem setting up my guitars before. It is not so noticeable when playing thru and amp but I tend to noodle around with my tele unplugged watching tv a lot. I rarely ever sit on the couch without my tele within arms reach. This did kinda start about a few weeks ago when it got REAL COLD out. So it could be a truss rod adjustment will do the trick.

Take a look at the thread at the top of this subforum (fret leveling your tele). You will need to get a few tools but WOW, is it worth it. Ive done it to 6 guitars so far and I will do it to any others I come across!
