wiring issues...

Hey guys,
I'm having troubles with this strat type 5 way switch wiring. I followed the diagrams correctly and everything works, its just I get buzzing when plugged in. The buzzing decreases if you touch a metal element on the guitar such as the bridge or pots. Is this what they call 60 cycle hum? I've had similar issues before and folks told me to check the jack, that the ground and hot were wired correctly. I'm quite sure the jack is wired correctly. perhaps its a grounding issue?

Yes, it is a grounding issue. And most likely a shielding one as well.

I assume (unless I am wrong) that you are talking about a stratocaster?

Sounds like you have a ground issue. You need to have at 4 grounds one to the body, one to tremolo claw, one to the jack and all three pots need to be grounded.

If you have a ground to your Trem claw...check your Jack wiring again (carefully)...you wouldn't be the 1st to swear it was correct.....

cool

i grounded the tremelo claw with good results. I bet if I grounded the body it'd have a little less buzz. what kind of lug do i need to do that?

Unless you have shielding in the body ( like conductive paint) it is not conductive so that wouldn't gain you anything.

What he said. If you have a meter, touch one lead to the jack and the other to all of your ground points to be sure they're connected.
