Squier Protone Thinline Telecaster (1997) Electronics?

Hi,

i recently replaced all the electronics in my squier protone. first i had bad wirings, but after i followed the fender 90's thinline diagramm, it worked fine.

unfortunately, ive lost the little green cap. i replaced it with a orange drop 22nF, now with the new 2x500kOhm pots (like the original) the sound is much britgher and thinner as before.

can that be because i use a 22nF cap. maybe there was an 47nF installed? what happens if i bypass the tone pot? the tone changed!
