how to wire a 3way switch?

I am really going to show my ignorance here, but...
My 52 RI has a bad switch. It's just a basic 3 way. I'm not much of a tech but thought I could handle this so I ordered a new one from Fender and then pulled the old one. My assumption was that I could simply copy how it was done on the old one and install the new. I was wrong. Somewhere along the line, the old one was apparently replaced with a cheap plastic square switch. And believe it or not, I can't find anything to show me how to go about this. Can someone help? Pics or a video would be great...I really am a ham-fisted clutz!

I'm not sure what AVR means. But it's an American 52 RI if that makes a difference.

Hard to imagine anyone would put one of those plastic box switches in a USA '52 RI Tele. My '88 MIJ '68 RI Strat had one...

In any case, just follow the schematic that was linked above.
