Can't remove the neck pick-up cover
I'm replacing the chrome parts with gold hardware. I can't separate the neck pick-up cover from the pick-up. The two tabs (neck side) are loose, but I can't locate the single tab. Seems like the cover is glued to the pick-up. Any experience with this?

I'm beginning to get the uneasy feeling that this was a really stupid question. Not being a techie myself, I figured most of the folks that frequent this room would have encountered this problem in their novice era.
Is the neck pup cover removable? If not, why do they sell replacement covers? |

the third one is usually stuffed in the hole where the
wires come through. If it had been broken off. the cover may be glued on. that would be really hard to take the cover off. there usually isn't anything between the coils and the cover so you have to be reallllyyyyyy careful or you will break the windings. It can be done but be real gentle. Hope this helps |

To add to what's mentioned above:
If it feels like it's "glued", the pickup is probably wax potted into the cover itself. If that's the case, then I'd take a pan or small bowl of nice hot water, and dip the cover into the water for a few seconds. Don't submerge the pickup, but get the cover in there enough to transfer some heat into the wax ans soften it up so it's easier to remove. Good luck, I hope you are able get it apart easily. |
