Split Shaft to Solid

Stupid me ordered split shaft abalone knobs and lo and behold I have solid shafts. Has anyone successfully drilled out the smaller knobs to 1/4 to fit solid shaft?

Do it all the time for various reasons...just use good Common sense...and start with a bit under a 1/4" and work yer way up in steps...A wood or soft Jawed Vise will help...and save your fingers.
