HW1 jumbo frets, what to do?

hi all
ive had a HW1 for some time now, and well just cant get used to the jumbo JUMBO frets

i have considered neck replacement, but quite like the profile and smooth feel, so prob not needed.

so what the best option? i had considered sanding down the frets and well if i stuff it up get it refretted, but firstly i dont know how to do this, and second i have no idea what a refret costs???

anyway if anyone has been in the same situation, would be great to hear your story and what you recommend??

cheers
adam

i have a similar problem with an SX thinline neck .its a great neck with no problems except I find the Jumbo frets too tall and difficult to get used to .I have put a Fender neck on it but like the SX profile apart from the frets .I could just bin or sell the SX neck but its a good un and those GFS bodies may return soon ..I like medium jumbos on the Baja neck .

Take the neck to a skilled luthier and have them filed down and re-crowned. No big deal.

Will that be OK on Jumbo frets ?.I must confess it was my first inclination as I have the required skill and good quality swiss files to do it ( I make brass patterns for models sometimes ) .I have done it on other guitars OK .Just wasnt sure if it works with jumbos .The SX neck is cheap but good and very playable being chunky and well sorted and I didnt want to do if it makes it much more difficult to play. Thanks for the advice

It will work with jumbos but the frets will be a bit wide. That actually gives the neck a faster feel but it might be a little more sensitive to tuning issues if you're a heavy handed player. Some people really like the low/wide fretwire like 6130 on their guitars.

are there any good information sources on doing this yourself?

i have actually done a little of thois before with a black marker pen and a file, but be good to read up, especially on how to crown properly (make round & smooth right?)

Thought I would update this thread .I kept the SX neck and put it on a very cheap bodied Parts caster with some spare Keystones installed .The ultra lightweight unknown make body is real cr*p but oddly it all works fine .I love the jumbo frets now ,finding them very fast and accurate .Its often worth keep trying a part you didnt like before modding or binning .If I buy another guitar I am going to spec jumbo's if possible .I thought my Baja neck was the best but the SX sure works .

Bluepill I'll be happy to trade you my 3 month old 2007 MIM std neck for your Hwy one neck straught up. Everyone thats played my Tele comments on how much they like the neck...but I love Jumbo frets.
