Affinity bsb nut and tuners
Ok, I have my credit card in my sweaty little hands, loaded with my puny little paycheck. I'm going to order up some vintage style tuners, the adapter bushings and a new nut from stewmac. I'm ready to pull the trigger but am going to use a measure of self control to check with the smarter people here:
What do you guys think is better - bone, tusq or graphite and do I need curved or flat? I enjoy the thinness of this neck and would like to keep it as is so I guess I'm probably going to have to get a blank nut and build it myself.... Thanks! |

Tusq is well marketed plastic. Graphite can lose tuning fairly easily and wear down over time. I'd go with bone, horn, MOP(real, not toilet seat), or stainless steel.

I know for a fact that the nut will need to have a curve radius equal to the neck radius which I believe is 9.5 on the Affinity BSB Special. I know because I ownd one.
As far as material, I like bone. The graphite aint too shabby, but I still prefer bone. |

I'm sure you'll be plenty happy with the Tusq nut, but the radius of the Tusq nuts is 7.25", so it's not really a drop fit.
If I were you, I'd go with the pre-slotted bone nut from Mojo: http://www.mojomusicalsupply.com/ite...971&id=2113255 Problem is that they the don't appear to have adapter bushing for your tuners. |

I figured better to keep this one going as opposed to flooding w/ more topics;
I've decided on a bone nut replacement for a BSB affinity tele. WD has them, and praisecaster, you say for sure you know radiused bottom a must (thanks on that!), so: would this be the thang? http://www.wdmusic.com/bone_nut_for_fender.html My buddy's 'bout to put in a WD order i can piggyback on that's why i ask WD specific. |

I put vintage Kluson style on mine and a bone nut. The material was a dog bone from Petsmart. Not that hard to do.
Both of these are great upgrades for that guitar.

My first thought was immediately...dead dog. Sorry, I had to comment! When I lived in Seattle, there was this pet shop next to a Chinese restaurant and I always though, hmmmmm........ Ed

Damn, I went with a regular bone nut. Cow I guess but dog bone would have been good for some style points! Ooooh actually, what if I had the piece of bone I had removed from my spine and used that? That'd be pretty hard to beat....
