Eddy Drake

Could Anybody Give Me Some Information Or Pics On Eddy Drake From Southern California? All I Have Is 2 Pictures Of Him, And I Think He Had A Leather Telecaster Before Waylon Even Did.

Thanks

Matt

You can email me at wildhorsestudios@msn.com with your questions and I will see what I can find out for you. I presently play bass with his long time drummer Gary Hill. Maybe I can find out what you need. I know Eddy isn't in the best of health at the present time. I believe you are correct about the guitar. He and Waylon were friends.

I think you're right about Eddy having the......

tooled leather cover before Waylon as the SoCal players were pretty much ahead of the pack. I knew Eddy over 40 years and played pedal steel with him about thirty years ago at a club in SoCal called "Next Time Country". Eddy had a couple of Teles with tooled leather covers and also had some that were inlaid with the oriental style very fine inlay work all over the body. He was a very tasty guitarist and an excellent vocalist. Another thing before Waylon was the fact that LA session ace Al Bruno had the Keith/Scruggs banjo D-tuner on his low E string before Waylon!

I'm sorry to say that Eddy just died this past week and his memorial service is to be held in SoCal today in just a couple of hours from now. He'd been in a nursing home for quite a while and suffering a lot. The details of the service and also an old brochure featuring photos of him are on the Steel Guitar Forum. I'll go over there and see if I can repost it over here.........JH in Va.

Jerry Thanks For The Info... Billy Reece Called My Father Jack Reeves The Day He Passed And It Sure Was A Sad Day For Us. Eddy Played On A Couple Songs For My Dad In The 70's And Helped My Dad Get Started In The 60's. That's Funny You Mentioned Al Bruno, He Just Played Guitar For Me On New Years Eve And I Played His Ole' Gibson ES-355. With His Scruggs Tuners On It. I Believe He Also Has One On The High To.

Thanks Again,

Matt Reeves

Hi, I purchased Eddy's 1972 Telecaster in 2002.
This is his black one that he had customized by Valdez Guitars in Hollywood.
I've attached a photos of it.

Anyway, I am thinking of selling it as I don't play it. Do you know anyone that would be interested in buying Eddy's Tele?

Thank you for your time.
