Bigsby or not to Bigsby a baritone tele.

Hi
I've lurked this forum for a long time and found it to be a valuable source of info.
My first tele project is actually going to be a baritone. I have an allparts neck on the way. From what I've gathered a bright wood such as ash or maple is the best choice for a baritone body but whether I will want string through routing or not is keeping me from orderng it.

Is a Bigsby a good idea? I'm concerned that the extra load put on it with the Baritone's heavy strings will be a problem. Has anyone here had experience with a Bigsby on a Baritone tele?

Thanks
TheBear

I believe the Gretsch G6144 Spectra Sonic (TV Jones designed) is a baritone w/a Bigsby. I'm not sure, but I think Setzer used something like it on his "Ignition!" album.

ooooh, i like the pink strat baritone lol. but wouldn't the string tension be similar to regular due to the extra scale length?

Hi

Those with the bigsby's. Do you get a decent string bend out of it with the larger/longer strings? I emailed WD about it and they seemed concerned about being able to bend the larger strings to string them through the trem bar

Yeah, stringing the Bigsby with a bari set of strings might be nightmarish.

First post. I just put a Bigsby on a baritone tele I made, and it basically stays where ever I move the arm to (if I lower pitch, it stays there, etc). I assume it's not made for that tension? What the hell?

I bet it's the pressure bar of B5 combined with not slippery enough saddle and nut. Try fixing those. One inch spring instead of 7/8 " may do some good.

Somekind of a rocking bar as a bridge may be the ticket too.

I'm about to start a baritone project with B5, Bigsby rocking bar bridge and dynasonics. I think I route a hole and sink the B5 lower, get rid of the pressure bar and try to follow angles from Gretsch hollow body guitars. I think it'll make a twang machine.

Good point, the roller bar might not be the best for this type of project
