Weird G string tuning issue

I went o my lesson yesterday and tuned up first. We were playing and my G string sounded off. CHecked tuning and it was spot on. Checked at the 12th and it was still right on. A on the 14th fret was noticeably flat. Anyone get this before? maybe just a bad string? (Ernie Ball Super Slinky, been playing this set for about 3 months, maybe ~200 hours give or take.)

200 hours on a set of strings? I bet they are long past their prime. You'd probably see a definite improvement if you put on a new set.

Weird G string tuning issue

It would be more weird if a unwound G string w/ 200 hours use stayed in tune.... ....you haven't learned about the curse of the G yet ?.....

Yep, I'd say it's time (well, your string says it's time) for a new set of strings. That, and G strings are notorious for behaving oddly, even out of the package. On one of my guitars, I can't eliminate the slight, but still annoying, buzzing of the G, even after dressing the frets and adusting its portion of the saddle noticably higher than the others.

200 hours, that's way too long to wait to change....

your strings. A guitar string stretches in more in some areas than others so you really can't keep 'em on that long. When I was playing full time I'd change them once a week which was usually after 30 to 35 hours of use and they always sounded fresh..........JH in Va.
