Mysterious Telecaster?!

Hey guys, I'm new in here, come from Germany. So please don't be angry cause of my english.

I turned from Strat to Tele as I bought a used nice Telecaster out of the 90s. My question is, what for a tele is this?

It looks a little bit like a Part-o-Caster, built together out of different parts. But how can I see if the body or the neck is Original how it wants to tell me?

If there are any questions feel free to ask!
It would be very nice of you if you could help me!!!

Thank you and rock on!

Not sure exactly what model it is. Serial number suggests 93 - 94. The tuners have certainly been changed. That middle route and the truss-rod adjustment at the head will suggest something to someone here I'm sure...

Very pretty Telecaster you have there whatever it is...

Congratulations and welcome...

Cheers!

Welcome to the site. That's a nice looking tele.

How about a closer look at the headstock. Maybe a serial number. Does it have a 3 way or 5 way switch?

Have you tried running the serial Number through the instrument dater info in resources? (check here - http://www.tdpri.com/serialnumbers.htm )

I'm not much of an authority myself - I'm here to learn too. I think some of this information may be helpful for some of the more educated folks here.

Looks like all of that's been done - I guess I should have refreshed the screen first.

Hey there,

the guitar has a 3-way switch and the serial I allready dated. It tells me that she was made between 93 and 94 in the USA but I guess, the Neck and the body come from different guitars.

Body = Custom Tele
Neck= Tele Custom

Was my opinion. Maybe someone has got better Information.

Yours

phil

The N3 would also make it a USA model wouldn't it? At least the neck.

I have a 90 model and it has a different bridge on it. It's flat with no lip and a bit longer I think. And the saddles are different.

It looks like the neck and body are mis-matched because of the scant space between the neck end and pickup, probably because it's a 22 fret neck.

Your English is coming along nicely, don't worry about it. I'm not sure exactly what you have there but it is very good looking.

Hey timmer,

you're right. Mine got 22 frets and the ordinary Telecaster Customs on ebay for example do have 21 frets...
That could be one of the reasons why it does not fit that right with the pickguard and the pickup.

Does anybody has an idea except ebay where I can get a used Telecaster Custom Neck?

Well IMHO the neck does not originate from Fender. I have never seen the combination of the custom logo and headstock adjustment trussrod.

As far as the body is concerned I have never seen a double bound Fender body with a middle pickup...

Pretty guitar nonetheless.

Philip, welcome! That does look like a nice guitar. I'm pretty sure that it's made out of non-fender parts.

Look closely at the grain in the pickup cavities. Does it match the top? It's difficult to tell in the photos, but it looks like it has either a maple cap or a maple veneer, which I don't think Fender ever did.

If it plays nicely and sounds good I wouldn't worry about the non-fender parts.

i think if you look closely you will see that its been refinished as the middle pickup routing is not as clean as others , but the finish is the same inside both
i agree new decal on headstock, looks like a 62 reissue custom body with wrong neck , but saddles and bridge look wrong fro 62ri as well . end result do you like it if so great , certainly looks a nice guitar .

Dude, welcome aboard!

It looks like possibly/probably the top has a seam that the grain in the PUP cavity is not consistent with, and the grain itself looks like different wood to my eye. The rings in the tree do not change in layers, well not in that direction anyway. ;) So the veneer top makes sense to me. Sure is Purty!!

I wouldn't site that as an example, just look at the other routes and they are all the same.

I'd like to see the neck end and the neck pocket of the body.
