Baja tone control broken!?!

So I took my Baja apart to change the body to a new one I just finished in butterscotch blonde. Reattached all the wiring in the right place (I think) but now the tone control is messed up! On the bridge pickup it works as it should, but in the neck and the 4th switch position it acts funny. At first it actually seems to roll off the bass, instead of treble. Then as I turn the knob all the way down it just cuts out the volume! Any suggestions?

Id say thats your rewiring job. You can either go through and double check everything extra careful and use a meter, or if it was me, start from scratch and do it over again. Gives you a chance to practice soldering pretty.

If it'll help I can whip out my Baja's control plate and send you some photos of the wiring.

I'm out at the mo so it would be a bit later in the day.

pengipete, that may help. I've looked at the wiring diagram on Fenders website and it all seems to be done right. I didn't take very much apart...all I did was remove the leads for he pickups but I thought I put them back right. I have been thinking however of taking out the S-1 and wiring it for just the 4-way switch; I've had a couple problems where the switch somehow gets pushed and stuck in that position. Maybe this is good timing to just go ahead and do that!

No worries - be a bit later in the day but you're quite a few hours behind us - it's about 2:20pm here - so I should still be able to get them to you during your daytime.

The problem is definitely not my wiring. It seems to be a problem with the neck pickup itself. I think the ground wire from the pickup cover is not doing its job right. The tone control makes the same sound whether I have the green wire soldered to it or not. Looks like the cover got partially pulled off of the pickup somehow. I think I am going to have to remove the cover and see what is going on.
