Custom pickguard help/suggestions
I'm in a bit of a puzzle here: I'm going to stick a strat neck on a tele body, which means that there's going to be a gap in between the neck and the body. I was planning on covering the gap up with a custom pickguard--it's a pretty simple and cost-effective solution.
But, because of money issues, I have to do it myself, and I lack a router and template. So I need material suggestions: anything that's easy to cut by scalpel and sand down. And I need paint suggestions--what kind of paint I should be using, or what material holds paint well. (I'm planning on doing some Jackson Pollack-style paint splatter.) I was thinking of using multiple layers of this with a layer of painted-on canvas in between, but I'm not sure how that would work out. |

I don't think the clear pickguard material will stick very well over the canvas.
I just looked at Stewmac, and a pickguard blank is cheap enough that I doubt you'll find it worthwhile to hunt around for alternate materials, unless you're really going for something unique. You could get some acrylic from the hardware store and paint the backside to make yourself something really unique.
