Special Esquire Wiring and a Q-filter

I took a Squier and Made it into and Esquire (Esquier)

I started out with the stock Bridge Pup and used the wiring diagram in our resources section of the TDPRI, and I really liked it! I called Bill Lawrence's shop and spoke with Becky. I asked Becky if they had a recommendation for an Esquire pup. Becky said they have a noiseless pickup that was designed for the Esquire and that I might want to try it with their Q-Filter. I absolutely love the keystones I bought from them so decided that this would be the way to go!

Now let me say that when I first got the keystone I put them in and hated them, I gave them a second chance in a new build and something was different, I'm not sure what, but they are awesome!

So I got my new L-290TL-E pickup, the Q-filter and a cap and resistor twisted combo and I proceeded to wire up a new set of pots and and switch, so that I could preserve my original handy work for later.

I followed this Diagram and used the twisted Res/Cap combo where it shows the cap.

Now this pickup is a trip! I have never used a noiseless pup, and it is just that! WOW!!! Super clean and clear as can be. Nice output too. The 3 positions were no big thrill to me.

  1. volume and tone (using the res/cap twist)
  2. volume only
  3. volume and Q-tone (not using the res/cap twist)

I didn't care for any of these over the traditional wiring but I stuck with it for more than a week (I learned not to give up to quick from the Keystone install). Bill called to see if he could help. He asked what cap/res was I using with the Filter I told him that I was using his "Special Esquire wiring" and that it didn't utilize the cap/res when in the "Q" position. Bill couldn't recall this wiring off hand and proceeded to explain quantum physics to me for an hour everything I have seen uses a cap/res with this device. someone told me without them, the tone control just changes the pickup to a low output pup as it is rolled down, and that is exactly what it was like in the "Q' Position

I went back to the original wiring with the L-290-TLE pickup and it is incredible!!!!!

If I had to give up all but one this would be the one I'd keep! And I have some pretty cool ones

Here come the questions....

Who has used this wiring, how do you like it and what did you do different if anything?

Is there a way to add this device with a cap/Res combo, to position 3 of the standard Esquire wiring (volume-no tone control) with out effecting positions 1 & 2?

I'll have to post again, thgis one thinks I have 5 Images in the post........

I have not tried these combinations, but you've re-ignited my interest in the 290 when I was gonna order a set of 200s and a set of 202s.

You got quantum physics? I guess Bill realized I was a dummy and we talked about law and politics instead.

Continued

Here is what I have installed now with the L-290-TL-E

Here is the link that is supposed to explain the Q-filter.http://p082.ezboard.com/fguitarsbyfe...picID=16.topic

from what I understood, the Q-filter is supposed to create a very acoustic/piezo sound, as well as convert your tone knob into some kind of marvelous control.

I thought I would see what wisdom I could tap into, from the TDPRI, before I send the filter back for credit toward a set of the new Keystones with the covered neck pickup!!!! I'm gonna get those regardless and maybe a set of noiseless for some other Tele. Tele's are taking over, Here at Casa Rotelli.
