Saw this while searching around about Bakelite.As in Bakelite Pickguards.

I just completed a cnc job that used 1" thick Phenolic(Bakelit). Other than some edge chipping it was pretty stable stuff. I am going to have a go with some on my next project. Cool picture!

There have been several threads regarding bakelite for pick guards...McMaster-Carr industrial supply has "garolite" available in a variety of sheet sizes. Peruse the TDPRI search function, plenty of info.
