5-way switch mod with "kill position"

Hi all! I have a nashville telecaster 5-way switch (just like the stratocaster one), and I would like to replace the 3-way switch on my standard telecaster with it, in order to obtain the following possibilities:

1. bridge pickup only
2. bridge and neck (parallel)
3. neck pickup only
4. bridge and neck (series)
5. kill-switch (mute signal)

Is there any mod (schematics) like that? Sorry for my inexperience (and for my english) :D

The closest I can figure is:

1. bridge pickup only
2. bridge and neck (parallel)
3. neck pickup only
4. neck pickup only (REPEATS)
5. bridge and neck (series)

You'd have to get a Superswitch 5-way to get the combos you want, in the order you want them.

Thanks so much Eddie, please can you give me a schematics for this configuration? Thanks again :)

Here's a drawing:

1. bridge pickup only
2. bridge and neck (parallel)
3. neck pickup only
4. neck pickup only (REPEATS)
5. bridge and neck (series)

The red "C" indicates the common lug for each pole.

Notice that the neck pup's ground lead goes to the common lug on the left pole, NOT to ground.

The bridge's hot is jumpered across from the bridge lug of the right pole to the "neck" lug of the left pole.

The mid and neck lugs of the right pole are jumpered together.

You will have to do the same ol' "unground/reground" of the neck pup's METAL COVER for this mod, because of the series throw.

Last question: will this trick works also with fender noiseless pups? Thanks.

Yes, It should work with ANY two pickups. The only tricky part is if the neck pup has a metal baseplate or cover, and you have the info about that.

Hmmm... I got a non-fender 5-way switch in my homebuilt Tryggvecaster. I couldn't use the standard schematics because it's so different I don't know where what goes. After some trial a and erroring it ended up with the following settings:

1. bridge pickup only
2. bridge and neck (can't say if it's series or parallel)
3. neck pickup only
4. neck pickup only (same as 3)
5. kill-switch (mute signal)

I find the kill switch very handy. The dual neck pickup positions don't bother me that much.
I'll post some pics when I can.

The drawing I posted will do exactly that (parallel at throw #2) if you remove the (red) jumper between the left-pole neck lug and the right-pole bridge lug, OR, remove the jumper between the mid and neck lugs on the right-pole... or do both.

I just figured four tones/no mute was better than three/with mute...

Ah, thanks! I'll try that out some time.
Also thanks for posting the unground/reground doc. I'd never have thought about it but that makes perfect sense.

Here's my "I don't know how to wire you" switch.

Purple wire goes to the volume pot;
Yellow wire to the bridge pickup;
Red wire to the neck pickup.

Why would you want a switch position to do what the volume knob already does? Not being a smartass, just wondering?

Deaf Eddie:
Thanks a lot!!! That's a real fast answer to that one... I definitely am going to try it.

Ed Bickert:
It won't fit in everyone's playing style, but I sometimes find it handy to very abruptly mute the sound entirely, and then just so abruptly return to the same volume you were on.
