Tele Bridge/Control Plate mounting screws

i ordered a 52' style tele bridge plate and a chrome control plate, but unfortunately i assumed screws were included. just wondering if i can run down to the hardware store and pick up some wood screws to finish the job, or are the screws that SHOULD have been included specially calibrated or gauged for this kind of job?

if not, what kind of screws would be best?

Thanks,
Joel

Yep you can. if you want the more vintage look you can get slot heads. I have slot heads for my control plate and guard, but cross heads for the bridge. I also go for longer than standard screws for the control plate.

The main criteria is that they be what is called Oval head...Not Flathead, which most Home Centers carry...might have to try an Ace Hardware ?

You can find oval head stainless steel sheet metal screws at Lowes. They're in the specialty drawers below the bagged screws.

The control plate would be mounted with the same size screws as the pickguard (which usually come in bags of a dozen anyway, offhand I'd say about an number 6 by 1/2"). The bridge plate I believe has heavier screws, maybe #8, that are true flat head (bugle head). Stainless screws will have roughly the same color as your chrome hardware, plain zinc plated steel just won't look right.

Pickguard screws are #4, 1/2 inch, oval head. #6 are too big. My local mom & pop hardware store has them in nickel plated slot heads, perfect for early 50's style partscasters. The Lowes near me doesn't carry nickel or chrome plated, but does have a fair selection of stainless.
