Weight of body blank vs. final body?

Anyone know how to appreciate final weight of body from
knowing the weight of the body blank?

I have a found some old alder like wood but it seems heavy.
The body blank is 16" x 20" x 2-3/8" and weighs 17 lbs.
I know it is a bit bigger than normal body blank.

How much would a final body weigh more or less?
And if one would make a thinline how many % less weighs a
thinline body compared to a solid body?

The questions might be hard to answer but some thoughts
would be nice. Because I have no idea

Wild guess is less than 1/2 for your 17 pounder !
Going from 2-2/8 to 1-3/4 is a big step and then to
15-3/4 by 12-3/4 love to see what you have then?

Without looking at any other post or references, I can tell you that depending on the size of the body blank, and the thickness you decide on, the weight can go down by as much as 50%, but 35% is more likely.

If weight is a concern for you (and it should be), do a semi-hollow/chambered body, it is well worth the effort!

Adios!

You current body blank is 760 cubic inches. 17lbs./760 cu.in. = 0.02237 lbs per cu. in.

If the blank was milled down to 16 x 12.75 x1.75 it would be 357 cu. in. and weigh 7.99 lbs. Sorry can't tell you how much weight would be lost with shaping and routing cavities.

That one's easy. A tele body comes out to about 266 cubic inches. Your blank is 760 cubic inches. Divide weight by volume and you get .0224 lb/cu. in.

That gets you 5.95 pounds for a completed body. Ouch.

Thank you for your calculation, I knew you guys could figure it out.
I was hoping for less........had a 52RI body that was about 6 lbs. No fun, sold it.
As a Thinline I am hoping to get down to 3.5 - 4 lbs. Should be possible, right?

I just took away 0,7 kg from 2 kg body in thinline makig progress. That's about 35 percent. So if you got a 6 pound body without chambers you might end up with 3,9 lbs. Plus hardware, whatever that weigths. Edit: a pound I guess.

And neck... with tuners.
