DJ crossfader instead of 3-way switch
I believe a topic similar to this has been covered, however, I was thinking about controls for setting the individual volume of each pickup, but still keeping the master volume - unlike a Les Paul. I see one possible solution in the DJ crossfader in place of the 3-way switch. A nice short-throw one like pictured. Mounting it wouldn't be a problem with those GF blank control plates, and the black top plate could be ditched. But my question is: is this even advisable? Is having control over individual pickup volume an advantage for any situation or taste preference? Thanks.

Sounds like a cool idea - although the very reason many people are nuts about Telecasters is because they are simple (the guitars, not the people!).
I'd be worried about bumping the cross-fader. How about one of those Stew Mac fader pots? Although, you could get a cool effect "scratchin" between pickups. That'd be unique. Probably sound like a mellow wah. Go for it and post your trials and tribulations.

Remember that one of the switch positions on the original Telecaster activated one of the pots as a blend control. It's absolutely doable, and I don't think you need a crossfader.
A blender/crossfader is one way to do what you want, but it's no more or less simple to wire than having 3 volume controls, one for each pickup and a master.
