Thinline build
I am new to the forum and new to guitars.
I am building a thinline telecaster from scratch for my son. I've got lots of questions and have been finding lots of answers on line but thought someone might help with a few. When drilling from the neck pick up to the control cavity do you have to go in through the neck rout or can you just go from the neck pickup rout to the control cavity? Is it a good idea to recess the pick guard flush with the top? Does anyone know where I can get a cad file for the telecaster neck? Thanks. Any help appreciated. |

I've documented a Thinline type build I did. You might find something useful. It actually starts on page 2.
http://www.tdpri.com/telephoto/showgallery.php/cat/574 If you're building a Thinline you can just drill a hole from the neck pickup cavity into the lower chamber. With a solid body you have to either drill from the neck pocket through the neck pickup cavity into the bridge pickup cavity or drill through the neck pocket corner through the neck pickup cavity to the control cavity.

>> I went from the neck cavity through the neck pickup into the control cavity Is it a good idea to recess the pick guard flush with the top? >> That might look cool, but it's not typical. Does anyone know where I can get a cad file for the telecaster neck? >> Can't help you there. You certainly can make your own neck, but a lot of builders tend to buy them. Good luck, and feel free to post pictures of your progress. |
