Need to raise the neck... with what?
Hi all,
I swapped the neck of a Squier Tele with a nice AllParts vintage (and reliced) neck but the neck pocket is a tad too deep for this neck, about 1.6mm difference. I temporarilly shimmed the neck with a piece of compact cardboard of about 1mm and it's already much better. Now should I use a piece of wood instead of cardboard? And what kind of wood should I use? Hard or soft? Fabien |

If you use a piece of tapered wood, you can maintain wood-to-wood contact.
Personally, I've used purpsose-made plastic shims, business cards, wood, screen-door mesh, and sandpaper over the years. I've never heard a bit of difference in the tone. |

I use tinfoil. You can double it up to almost any thickness, and you can fold it so it tapers from thick to thin if you only want to shim the back (or front) of the pocket. It's easily available and easy to work with and cheap. The only tools you might need is a pair of scissors.
