Tone Pot issue
Hey,
I installed a No-Load tone pot in my 04' MIM Telecaster. If I roll the tone back it will "jump" and go back to the brightest setting. Anyone ever experience this? Is it a crummy wiring job on my behalf? Thanks |

I've actually had this happen to me on two separate occasions, two different guitars.
In one instance it was indeed a cold solder joint where the cap connects to the lug. As a result when you turned the knob down it would occasionally apply pressure the wrong way to the joint and effectively disconnect the cap from the circuit. In the other instance it was a bad pot where the internal strip of metal had bent improperly inside the pot so that it would actually lift off of the carbon strip inside halfway as you rolled off the treble. I'd re-solder the pot and double check that everything's wired correctly. If that doesn't help then you may need a new pot.
