stop me before I mod again

Here's my crazy plan:

I'm considering putting in the minibucker neck and strat middle. The guitar is a CIJ '52 RI. What would I need to use for pots, impedance wise?

thanks!

It doesn't matter. The standard 250/250k ohm pots will be fine. I would go for 500/500K, or perhaps 500/250, to brighten up the minihumbucker a bit. Generally the higher the pot value the brighter pickup will sound, but they will all work in any combination.

If you're using that pickup combo aren't you tempted to go the whole hog and do Brent Mason style wiring. Terry Downs has detailed it in several posts on here.

Just a suggestion, yours sincerely,

The other Harry Stone.

++ on the B. Mason wiring, its what you'll want out of that setup.

This is what I did to a MIM body, after adding a bridseye Strat neck:

I've since removed the mini's ring and installed a pearloid guard cut for a mini in the neck (I had to route the middle position hole).

With that many pickups, I'd recommend using 500k pots and using the Tone control if the bridge/middle are a bit too bright on their own.

And I thought Brent Mason's wiring scheme was extreme!

I know it has been said quite often but Johnny Crash you do rule.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Although I've frequently been awed by Brent Mason's playing, I don't know how his wiring is set up. I'll do a search and see what's up.

JohnnyCrash, thanks for the diagram. I might go that route, too.

Man, thank you very much. The only thing keeping me from doing this mod sooner was the chance I wouldn't like it and then I've modded my favorite tele for nothing. For what that Squier costs, I'm buying one of those instead.
