best neck source

I'm thinking about buying a '52RI neck -- probably from either Neal's or Hefner/Edenhaus. I'd appreciate any feedback on either of these two sources, plus any others you might recommend.

Many thanks.

Tommy Rosmond and USA Custom Guitars...

...they simply get no better than this. Great products of the highest quality and one of the nicest and most customer oriented guys you'll ever meet. 8)

Ditto on USACG!

IMHO, Tommy & crew are the best. Period.

But remember that USACG necks do not come from the factory with a telecaster headstock shape. They are not licensed by Fender to reproduce the shape; thus they are a bit different. To get a true tele headstock shape on a USACG, you've got to order a plank head and cut it yourself.

Sorry; this is really a pet peeve of mine that people recommend USACG so wholeheartedly, but don't mention to someone (who may not know) that the headstock shape isn't right. They're great necks, I hear, but it ain't a tele neck.

Now their bodies are probably perfect.

I have nothing against USACG; I just wish people would tell the whole story when they give a recommendation.

headstock

Wow, that's interesting -- and quite relevant. Thank you.

Never even crossed my mind...

...but you're probably right, Kevin. It would matter to someone who wants it exactly like a Fender. Thanks for the reminder. 8)

Yes, the USACG necks are great, and Tommy will take good care of you. The headstock issue is a valid one, but easily remedied with some pretty simple sanding. Heres a pic of the standard USACG tele-style headstock from their website:

As you can see, there is a little extra point of wood on the lower edge. Since they don't pay Fender licensing fees, they can't copy the headstock exactly. This little extra bit of wood can easily be sanded down to provide a more standard-looking tele headstock. Below is a pic of the USACG soft-V neck that I recently got from KBR. His tech did the sanding. I have also sanded off this point on a USACG boatneck in the past. Pretty easily done IMO. This one is a super soft V profile, about .85" fat at 1st fret. Very comfy, much like a Jimmie Vaughan strat neck, IMO.

Ditto Tommy and USA-GG

I just got a one piece alder body and a 1/4 sawn all maple neck and absolutely love them both, but the neck is phenominal! As for the headstock design, it bothered me at first but seriously, if you want to do a little sanding, you can get it close enuff for government work! I'm still undecided if I will sand it! But the way it feels and looks is incredible.

warmoth

Warmoth makes an Exact early 50's neck (60's too) I really like Warmoth the Best. Very stiff , dense maple. I really like the fact that they can get some of the darkest, rich Rose wood I have ever seen. I like the USACG stuff too. either one is a step up from a standard fender neck. I have had a few Vintage series Fenders that had "Rubber necks" , not very stable maple. I have also felt good ones.
