Good deal; I'm anxious to see it.
I did a little "step-by-step" thing on building a tele. Click my WWW link below. It may save you some guessing about how to do a couple of things. The string ferrule holes are the thing that most people have trouble with. Those 13" planers are expensive, but after my last experience with the local wood shop, I'm gonna have to invest in one, I suppose. |

i can imagine them planers are expensive. i need to invest in a good bandsaw before to long cause i won't have access once i graduate. i could use the planer if i planed then glued but i'd rather not. Do you know where i can get a template?

If you're using standard parts, you can go ahead and rout. By standard, I mean vintage-style bridge, or at least one that's a direct replacement for a vintage style. You can use one of the Gotoh 6-barrel bridges.
The neck pocket is standard-sized, so you shouldn't have a problem. One word of advice is to make copies of the templates from MDF or plexiglass before you cut your body. That way, you won't destroy your templates when your router slips... |

bigsby?
i'm using a getting a bigsby for it so i better just leave that part alone
i'm having problems planing the board(s) down. you're supposed to take off 1/16 " and thats to much. started to take 1/32" off and thats too much. don't know what the deal is.

I usually start with 8/4 (2") rough-cut wood. Where I get it, it's usually a bit thicker than 2" to start with.
With that, it's not problem to get it planed down to 1 3/4" in two or three passes. |

Where is the gap and how big is it?
Sometimes, you can position your template to miss the gaps, but I'm assuming that yours is at the lamination? That may be more of a problem.... If it's fairly small, you may be able to fill the gap with epoxy. I'd recommend replaning the blank, though, cos if you got a gap, something wasn't flat. |

You're gonna make your own neck?
What are you gonna use to make sure that the fret are properly positioned, or did you buy a pre-slotted board from Stew Mac? I've thought about making necks, but I don't think I'd ever get the frets right.... |

i'm gonna try and make my own neck haven't decided about the fingerboard or if it'll just be a one piece neck. which i think might be easier. still in the planing stage with the neck. still gotta finish the body.
