Bill Lawrence neck pups -- question re cosmetics

I'm really tempted to buy a BL neck pup, but have a question re cosmetics. Does it fit in the metal cover, or is it supposed to be exposed? I'm probably going to do this anyway (I'm a huge BL pup fan), but I gotta admit I would prefer the look of a traditional tele pup.

Decent Exposure

No, they are meant to be used without covers. The tone of the L280 neck pickup is great, worth the non-vintage look.

I have an uncovered neck pup on my Tele (a Fralin).

At first I didn't like the idea of a non-trad looking Tele neck pup....

Well, in my case, the tone is worth it.

And I now dig the look. To me its kinda 'hot rod'!

Cheers,

Adam
