A chromatic tuner has all the notes, rather than just the standard EBGDAE of a regular guitar tuner.

You can tune to any tuning you like, as long as you know which note to tune each string to.

Like anything else, they vary -- and you get what you pay for....

Qwik Tune sells one for under $20. It'll probably do to tune a guitar, but not for setups, etc.

Boss makes a nice pedal (TU-2?, I think) that goes for around $100, and several handheld units. Korg makes some decent handheld units.

Fender makes a nice pedal that you can pick up for around $45.

The pedal tuners are nice cos you can leave them inline with your effects and they have a "kill switch" that mutes your sound while you tune.
