Step-By-Step Instructions For Assembling A Tele From Scratch...

...that won't assume you know some things about it. I've ordered my 4th USACG body and neck (Tele) and I'm considering assembling it myself...never done it before. Is there a resource on this board or maybe a good book that would get me there? Next stop...building a 5E3. Thanks.

Tom

TDPRI'er Rob DiStefano's website: www.frettech.com has some info you might find useful.....click the "info" button and read through, he more than adequately covers finishing, mounting the neck, nut work, fret dressing, level & crown etc etc etc....

There's also plenty of info available right here, or click "Telecaster Resources" up above on this page, you might also look here too....

hope it helps ya !

"Make Your Own Electric Guitar" by Melvyn Hiscock

and

"Guitar Player Repair Guide" by Dan Erlewine

are IMHO two of the essential reads PRIOR to either making and/or assembling an electric guitar.

Good luck with your project...

Well, it's not so fun if it is entirely step-by-step! I think a lot of the fun is in the research and scrounging for ideas.

I think the first place to look is a good running thread on this site, like the Buttercaster. Another idea is to search through one of the blog sites, like this: "telecaster+build+site:blogspot.com" ...a lot of people use blogs to store project-based descriptions in their blogs.

Tom,

You can check out my partscaster build - I chronicled the build with a website - www.higgydude.com - I built a Warmoth '63 Lake Placid Blue tele - the website shows the various steps I took - complete with hi-res close-up pics and information on all the mistakes I made and what I did to correct them.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Timmer and Kevin

I have 3 unfinished necks, one unfinished ash body and 2 body blanks (one alder, one mahogany) just waiting for me - I had to finish the conversion of the garage to a workshop first - then get the router, drill press, band saw...buy and install the stereo, wire 4 speakers, knockout an opening in a side wall to install a window and air conditioner, get all the camera equipment ready to start photographing the process...and it's a good thing I have such an understanding wife...

Anyway - I'll add to the website with details about each of those builds as well.

Ah, you're in Tempe! I would have thought that would make the air conditioner your highest priority (I lived in Phoenix about a lifetime ago!)

My power tools are all in my basement. It's cool down there, but controlling the dust is a big issue!
