Waverly tuners on a Tele????
I checked out the Vintique site a couple of days ago (don't worry...I'm not taking the chance and order something from them!) and saw this bit where they mention:
"Ok, so we don't make the incredible handmade Waverly tuning machines (16:1 gear ratio) or the screws -- but we make everything else." Wow...Waverly tuners on a Tele? Can this be true? The open-back kind? That's the only kind they make, don't they? And they only make 3/3 and not 6 in line... What's the deal here? Simply a mistake on Jay's side (got them confused with Gotohs?) or is he really installing Waverly's on his Teles? The idea is intriguing (at least to me) because I've once tried a $$$$$ Acoustic that had Waverly tuners installed and they looked, felt and tuned great. ![]() I wonder if it's possible to install them on a Tele for precise tuning (which seems impossible with Klusons...well, Gotohs are cool) and have some high-class reliable tuners with a vintage look... They sure are expensive but hey...people here also pay hundred bucks for bridge plates...

I think it would be smart of Waverly to make a 6-on-a-side set. They would sell a ton to guys wanting the ultimate Tele, or Strat. I would probably bite!
Then there would be countless threads debating the value, and worth of them! |

Well, we can always buy two sets and switch three tuners and have two identical looking working sets. But I thought it is odd that someone like Vintique uses them on their Teles. Doesn't seem like a mistake because Wavely is mentioned again in the link section of their homepage. Does anyone have a Vintique here? Or pictures of the front and back of their headstocks. Really would like to see how they look on a Tele...

Even if you bought two 3+3 sets to make a six-on-a-side set, they wouldn't FIT. The baseplates are much too large. Which is a shame, because they're the nicest tuners available. I have a set on an acoustic, and they look nicer and feel better than any other set I've had.

They do look nice, but then again...they probably work just like the generic Gotoh closed-back tuners that are available everywhere (which is fine), but I wanted the Waverly for their quality and precision.

A while back, I played a 1920s Martin with original Waverly tuners. They were still smooth and tight. Then again, my 1950s Klusons tune pretty well, too. But my 1970s Grovers are all falling apart. Oh, and my Running Dog acoustic has the nickel Waverlys with black pearl knobs. They are absolutely the best-looking tuners I've ever seen. I just wish I could find a pickguard where the pearl looked so good.

I'm also curious about a set of these for my project, just for something different. Now it's just a matter of figuring out how to order them!
