the butterflies
ok,another question here, found originally on my 78' tele are these 'butterfly wings' string trees. The one on the right with a spacer holds the D and G strings, while the other on the left that holds the B and E strings doesnt and have a shorter screw. Is this correct?Ive heard that string trees should be the same height? Thanks!

Having string trees the same height shouldn't matter. What's important is the amount of pressure the strings put on the nut. The E/B tree is farther from the nut, too, so you end up with the deflection angles being similar, anyway.

They're fine
There is some variation on Fender guitars.
the 62 re-issue strat I have came with one string tree that had the spacer. I have a '71 tele that has 2 string trees (should've come with only one originally) and neither one has a spacer. I think you want a 15 - 17 degree breakover angle (downward angle referencing fretboard as zero angle) for all the strings. A string tree for the e & b strings is common and sometimes for the d & g strings. But that angle is what you're aiming for. So, 1~2 winds around post for big e string. 1 ~ 2 more for the a string. more for the d and more yet for the g if you don't have string tree for those two strings. String trees setting the angle where they are used. I still wind on the whole string for the high e string but its probably not necessary.
