So I saw a Lindsay Lohan movie, and she played a tele...
...or a Tele-sonic according to a post on imdb.com in the movie "Freaky Friday", but the poster said the guitar was not an actual telecaster...
what? does a telecaster have to have two single coil pickups in the same configuration as the original butterscotch tele to be a "telecaster"? it's the only movie i have ever seen where the term telecaster, or tele was mentioned by name i did see a telecaster in the "Buddy Holly Story" and in the Ralph Macchio movie, "Crossroads" btw...what other movies have you seen a tele in?? |

Now that you mentioned it, I think I saw that Tele in "The Buddy Holly Story," myself. Forgot all about that.
I can't recall right off, but I'd bet Prince's long-present Telecaster copy probably put in an appearance or two in "Purple Rain," as well. |

It's not a movie, but there's a couple of VERY nice shots of a Butterscotch blackguard Tele in a frequently-run commercial for St. Louis tourism ... when they're running it, I bet I see that same ad a half-dozen times in a single night ...

and yes, that tele makes an appearance or two, or three next to bruce springsteen's guitar, prince's tele, or hohner tele, is the most photographed and filmed tele i have ever seen...and most recently, prince used the tele for the halftime show at the superbowl |

Hmm. It wouldn't have occurred to me to cast her as an inanimate object – I mean, she doesn't really look much like a Tele (to me, anyway), so maybe they were "casting against type." ;-) But having seen some of her other films, maybe it wasn't such a stretch after all.

Some folks really stick hard to the "it ain't a Telecaster if it ain't like they made 'em in 1952" line of thought. I am not such a person and believe that any guitar that Fender labels as a Telecaster counts, even if it is a Telesonic.
Other tele sightings: "I Walk The Line" (of course), the Boss playing his own in "Hi Fidelity," and the Pepsi commercial which postulates that if young Jimi Hendrix drank Coke "Purple Haze" would have been played on the accordion. |
