Pickguard Heaven?
Does anyone have experience with Pickgaurd Heaven? I'm picking up my G&L S-500 tomorrow and I want to change the pickgaurd from tortoise shell to perloid white. Since PH's S-500 perloid white is a 4 ply will I need longer screws? Any other considerations when changing out Pickguards(fill in old holes with anything?)? I will also change the pup covers & toggle switch cover to white, and change the volume and tone pots chrome. Is this project as minor as it sounds or are there hidden FUBAR'S around each corner?
Thanks :) PK

Thanks for the replies. I found PH thru G&L's website so I guess my concern is if the 4 ply perloid is enough thicker than the tortoise shell to warrant longer screws. Also, I appreciate the validation about the white :). The white/honeyburst's I saw were going on ebay for about 1299 and I nailed this for $849 :) Lucky me! Not necessarily the deal of the universe, but I'm stoke.

How do you think I did with the $849 plus pickguard swap (another 100 when its all done)? Reasonably decent? Thanks agian for your replies, PK

I finally got to lay into her big time! I played all night last night and all afternoon today. Once the new strings settled in she stays in tune very well. The pups scream. I was nervous about the 1 5/8 nut as I'm used to 1 11/16. The 1/16" is noticable! Noticable in a good way so far. Evrything is compact, and although my hands are like bear-paw-catchersmitt I can play open chords cleanly and scales, licks and runs seem FAST! I like it :)
Now the corker.. It wasn't til I took the pickguard off that I had the epiphony "I need screws with white heads not black". I asked for white screws in my pickgaurd heaven order. I'll post pics once the makeover is complete! PK

I only deal with them, as they are right up the road from me.
I just received a tortoise pickguard for my Fender Am/Se Jazz Bass from PH - fit like it was "made for it." Anyway, I used the stock screws. I personally like the chrome/SS stock screws over the white ones . . . but it's your guitar. |
