What size allen wrench for truss rod of Fender American Tele?

I've got a 1999 American Standard Tele, but I seemed to have misplaced the wrench for the truss rod. Does anyone know what size it needs to be? I can't find any info on it anywhere.

A 1/8 in. should work.

You need a long reach allen wrench, or one with a "T" handle, otherwise it is easy to ding the wood around the truss rod adjuster hole. I think that 1/8" is right.

Yep. I went and got one of those. Unfortunately, they didn't have an 1/8 in stock, so I got the next size up (9/64) hoping it'd work. Unfortunately, it's too big. So I guess I'll just have to return it and check out another hardware store.

Fender actually ships the american standard with an allen wrench that has a "longer reach" on the smaller part of the "L" shaped part of the wrench. Do you get me? I lost mine and a standard allen wrench wasn't long enough. Unless you use the long part in the hole and turn the short part....then you can't get enough torque.......I am rambling. Do you feel me?

When I do a truss rod adjustment I like to take the tension off the truss rod so the truss rod nut isn't doing the work.

With the headstock on my left knee, the guitar facing the floor with the body against my left foot. (The guitar is at about a 45 degree angle with the floor.) I press my left hand against the center of the neck. This takes the tension off the truss rod and should allow the nut to turn easily......... provided it's been lubricated.

If the adjustment is at the heel .......... it's a little more complicated.

Or put it on the TDPRI Garage Sale. 9/64" is the size needed for USACG necks.
